A big leap of faith

The bible says that faith without action is dead. This is something that I try to live by especially right now that times are tough with the economy being down and all. I have started my own business now and is my own boss. I just made a big decision to go into freelance ESL teaching. I have tried getting a full time job as an call center agent but things didn’t work out as I expected. Maybe the Lord had other things in mind.

Since I was having a hard time, I figured why not go back into teaching which is something that I am good at and enjoy doing. Instead of going back to a language school, I decided to be my own boss and set up my own shop.

Now, there are upsides and downsides to this ofcourse. The good thing is I can charge higher fees for my services and develop my own curriculum, I would also be in charge of my own working hours. On the other hand, looking for a client is the toughest part just like in most businesses. I have to find creative ways to market my self.

This latest chapter of my life is certainly an adventure, an unknown course, a big leap of faith. I am leaving it all up to the Lord to make this happen unless it is not his will for me. Neverthless, I am doing something rather than just sit around and wait for a miracle to happen. Faith without action is dead after all. It is useless. Faith requires us to take action and that is something that I beleive with all my heart.

A trip back in time

I love fridays and the weekends! This is the only time that I would hear 80′s music over the radio and re-live my childhood and teenage years back in the good old days of cool parties, excellent movies, and groovy hair styles. I feel so old writing about stuff like this but thats okay.

Listening to music from and watching old cartoon and tv shows from that era gives me an awesome feeling of nostalgia. I don’t care what others say, call me old fashion but I am a kid from the 80′s and always will be.

A virtual reunion with my brother.

A few days ago, I got a big surprise through my facebook account when my half brother mark sent me a message and requested to be added to my contacts. I haven’t heard from this brother of mine for so many years, and I am extremely happy that I got a message from him. We’ve been exchanging messages via facebook since then; but I am still hoping that we would get a chance to be united for the first time as one family.

I’ve only met one (willie)out of my three half siblings, and I am looking forward to meet kuya mark and ate grace one of these days. For now, I am simply joyfull that all three of them are now in my facebook account. Even though we are miles apart from each other and have never met in person, I love them very much because the same blood runs through our vains and nothing, absolutely nothing can and will ever change that.

Giving thanks for everything

The bible commands us to give thanks for EVERYTHING, it also tells us that all things work together for the good of those who loves God. I have to admit when I say that this is something that I am having a hard time putting into practise no matter how many times I have read these passages. I belive that Hod is teaching me how to do that through my current situation. My schedule at work has already changed and it will affect alot of things including my church attendance.

I believe that this is God’s way of putting me to the test, to give thanks in everything, even for those unfavorable circumstances from the viewpoint of the world. God has blessed me with a job and he has been faithful to see me thru the difficult trainings and he is still doing so. God wants me to put him in his line of sight at all times and not be distracted. That is what I intend to do with Christ’s strength in me. For apart from him I can do nothing. I want to give him praise and thanks for everything no matter how difficult my circumstances are.

Lessons from Fireproof

Yesterday, I had the priviledge of watching the movie Fireproof with my sunday SDG. The movie tells us about a couple whose marriage is on the rocks. The film basically is all about relationships, particularly a realationship in the context of marriage.

Eventhough I am not yet marriead nor engaged to someone, I feel that the Lord has spoken to me with how I live my life as a Christian. Virtues such as faithfulness, dedication, perseverance and love were some of the things that the Lord has taught me. What realy got to me was the perseverance that one needs in order to survive difficult times. Kirk Cameron’s character in the movie had to go to a series of tasks that he has to accomplish within a forty day period, tasks that could save his marriage. Kirk went thru a painstaking forty days going thru the guidelines written down in a small book given to him by his Dad. Just to cut a long story short, Kirk tried to give up several times during the process because his wife was not responding possitively to his sweet and thoughtful gestures.

The long wait and pain kinda reminds me about my self and how I should wait upon the Lord. I beleive that God used this movie to remind me to persevere in this world no matter how tough life may be. God is reminding me that He will work all things out for the better. That all things work together for the good of those who love him.

The lessons in marriage may not apply to me yet but I also believe that God is giving me a head start. Marriage is something that is lovely and scary at the same time in the sence that you don’t know what the future holds. I will forever remember the things that God is teaching me thru this movie. I look forward to watching the movie again. I should get my self a copy.

They say that a new day or a new week brings more opportunities, an opportunity to grow, tackle new ideas, deal with past mistakes as well as learn new things and improve your self. I am determines to improve my self as each day passes and try to learn new things. Things that will improve my personality and learn new skills or improve the ones that I already have. I have wated alot of days in the past by taking things for granted. This time, I am determined for a change in my overall well being.

I believe that each day is a gift from God, days that should be used wisely and make the most of it. We may not be aware of it sometimes but God is teaching us new things everyday. God uses our cirecumstances in life to perfect our selves by learning from each lesson that comes along our way.

It is my prayer that all of us would learn to be in tunes with God’s voice, to be sensitive to his leading and follow his directions. It is also my prayer that we should also be thankful for everything that comes our way. Wheathwe we realize it or not, God has a plan for everything and everything would serve his purpose. I am very greatful for each new day that passes knowing that I am being blessed each day and in everyway.

Third day of call center training has passed. Me and the rest of my batch mates had so much fun last night. My team won enough points for us to get to dress down tonight. Everyday, we have this game wherein we collect points from our participation in class, and tonight, my team got the most number of points.

Tonight or should I say tomorrow will be another day for us. Another day to learn and have fun doing it. I still have alot of things to take care of prior to my employment. Documents that are required by the HRD. The good news is we have the rest of our training time to complete all of the requirements. I’m on my way home now for another day has ended.

I survived my first night of call center training. I can’t believe that I’m back in a job which I hated doing. Unfavorable financial circumstances had left me no choice but to go back. Oh well, beggars can’t be choosers so they say.

Jesus commanded us that in everything we do we should do our best as if working for the Lord and not man. That is exactly what I’m gona do. To do my best whole heartedly and give him thanks for everything. After all, Jesus also said that ALL things work together for our good.

I finally saw the new Star Trek movie at the mall of asia’s imax theater. The movie was totally awesome! The actors did a good job of portraying characters which already has a huge fan based.

There were however some things in the movie that confused me since I already am familiar with trek history, but out of courtesy to those who haven’t seen the movie yet, I won’t spoil it for them by getting into details.

This has got to be the first time I have ever heard so much hype for a trek movie, especially among the non-trekkies which was really a big surprise for me. I’m sure that alot of Filipinos would agree with me when I say that Star Trek is not really big in our country as compared to Star Wars. But who knows, maybe this will be the start of something big. I’m keeping my fingers crossed on this. Its abouit time that Filipinos explore new things. To boldly go.
